Singer, songwriter, lyricist, guitarist and entertainer Kim Mitchell has been called a Canadian rock icon (a title he graciously eschews) but what else do you call someone who has so shaped the face of Canadian music? Mitchell, who is a native of Sarnia, Ontario, first appeared on the musical radar as the bandleader/frontman/writer/ guitarist for the groundbreaking Canadian rockers, Max Webster. The band burned their way through five original albums and during the late 70’s and early 80’s, they romped their resplendent rock across Europe and North America. But by 1982, Kim had made the hard decision to go solo. Sporting the image of the leather jacket and baseball cap clad Rascal Houdi Deluxe, he took his act on the road. Mitchell immediately batted singles out of the AM and FM charts including “Patio Lanterns,” “Go For Soda,” “All We Are” and “Rock N Roll Duty.” He won three Juno Awards: “Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year” (1983), “Album of the Year” (1987) and “Male Vocalist of the Year” (1990).
