Chippendales Revue

Show Starts at 08:00 PM
Friday, February 01, 2008
River Rock Show Theatre

The Chippendales Revue first began in 1979 as the hit nightclub act for female audiences. The original "Chippendales" nightclub was started by entrepreneur Somen "Steve" Banerjee. After owning a Mobil gas station and a failed backgammon club, he used a small investment to purchase a failed Los Angeles club named "Destiny II". Originally, Chippendales had female mud wrestling and a “Male Exotic Dancing Night” for the ladies. It was the first one of its kind in the USA. In the early 1980s, Banerjee partnered up with choreographer Nick DeNoia who had won an Emmy Award directing children's shows. Nick recruited the “best looking'” men to bring women's fantasies to life … not just strip tease. There is no doubt he played a major role in the success that made Chippendales a world-famous institution. The provocative music and dance revue has since grown into a spectacular touring show playing to sold out crowds at major theatres throughout the world. The Chippendales Revue is a unique party experience for women who often attend the theatre show in groups of friends. Their show is thrilling, tantalizing and romantic and, in spite of its sexy and teasing image, it is actually good, clean fun.

Collective Soul

Show Starts at 08:00 PM
Saturday, February 02, 2008
River Rock Show Theatre

Collective Soul's new studio album Afterwords was released just this past August. The band made an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on August 31st where they performed the single "Hollywood" which features an undeniable melody with tinges of ’80s pop. But while “Hollywood” may strike listeners as the perfect top-down summer song, much of the rest of Afterwords captures Collective Soul at a time when Roland is writing from a hard-won, much more mature perspective and his band mates are contributing from equally strong musical directions. And as much as things have changed since their early days, one thing remains constant: the attitude. “We want to work hard and keep playing music,” says Roland. “That’s what we’ve always wanted.”

In 1975, Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock met on their first day of rehearsals for “Jesus Christ Superstar” in Sydney, Australia. They became instant friends with their common love for The Beatles and, of course, singing. After each show’s performance, they would play pizza parlours, coffee bars and nightclubs with just one guitar and two voices. They quickly gained a reputation for great harmonies and for original songs that Graham was writing constantly. They made a demo on a cassette of two songs: “Love and Other Bruises” and “If You Knew Me” and took it to every record company in Sydney. Everyone turned it down except for one—CBS Records who admired their unique style. They made a single in one afternoon and it shot to #1 on the national charts. Air Supply was born! That same year, they opened for Rod Stewart across Australia and then throughout the US and Canada playing all the famous venues. It was 1977 and while they did find new fans, they did not break the US market. Back in Australia, they made a record called Life Support and included “Lost in Love” which went top ten in Australia and somehow it found its way to record producer Clive Davis in New York. Clive immediately signed them to Arista Records and in 1980, “Lost in Love” became the fastest selling single in the world leaping to the top of the all the charts. Their second single, “All Out of Love” went up the charts even quicker. Seven top five singles later, they had equalled at that time The Beatles’ run of consecutive top five singles. The albums Lost in Love, The One That You Love, Now & Forever and The Greatest Hits sold in excess of 20 million copies. The trademark sound of Russell Hitchcock’s soaring tenor voice and Graham Russell’s simple yet majestic songs created a unique sound that would forever be known as the Air Supply sound.

Dame Edna is probably the most popular and gifted woman in the world today … housewife, investigative journalist, social anthropologist, talk show host, swami, children’s book illustrator, megastar, celebrity spin doctor and icon. It was in 1955 when Australian character actor and landscape painter Barry Humphries, joined the Melbourne Theatre Company and created Mrs. Norm Everage, a Melbourne housewife who has subsequently become internationally celebrated and has evolved into the hugely popular and universally adored Dame Edna. On Broadway, her sensational vehicle, Dame Edna: The Royal Tour received a special Tony Award for “Live Theatrical Event.” The Outer Critics Circle has also bestowed upon her a “Special Achievement Award.” For her television special “A Night on Mount Edna,” she won the foremost European Entertainment Award, the Golden Rose of Montreux. Her other noteable awards include first prize in the San Francisco International Film Festival, a Gold Award at the New York Film and TV Festival and a British Academy Award nomination for “The Dame Edna Experience.” She starred at the concluding Commonwealth Games Ceremony in her hometown of Melbourne and more recently, she triumphed at the Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations at Buckingham Palace where she appeared by Royal Invitation. In 2005, Dame Edna returned to her beloved Broadway where her Back With A Vengeance! show won a distinguished Tony Nomination which was followed by a successful tour in the United States and Canada. Her hobbies are caring, sharing and downsizing.

The Ten Tenors

Show Starts at 08:00 PM
Saturday, February 16, 2008
River Rock Show Theatre

From unassuming beginnings back in 1995 to a now platinum record-selling and international touring act, the history of The Ten Tenors has been anything but standard. When ten young opera students from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, Australia banded together to form what was then largely a corporate act, the group's performances were few and far between and were essentially just a part-time affair providing the members with a bit of money to help them through their studies. "We joke about it now but back in the day, The Ten Tenors was really just a fun way to earn a bit of extra beer money," remarks David Kidd, one of the group's longest standing members, "It was all very informal and we could never understand why people would hire us to essentially fool around onstage". Indeed, it was exactly those hijinks that essentially became the secret of much of The Ten Tenors' future success. In 1998, with the popularity of the group growing by the month, the boys decided to take their onstage antics on the road and began a full-time touring schedule that has yet to wane. Early tours in Australia took them through many outback towns, regional centres and capital cities where the group honed its performance skills in music and comedy, wowing audiences wherever they went.Arguably their biggest break came in early 2002 when The Ten Tenors were invited to perform at the German final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Within hours, they had sold out an entire tour and were well on their way to becoming one of the most successful touring acts in Germany. Further European and Asian countries followed and in 2003, they made their debut in Canada and the United States. Nowadays, The Ten Tenors circle the globe ten months of the year performing approximately 250 shows on five different continents which in 2008 will include a one-night engagement at the River Rock Casino Resort.

Lewis Black

Show Starts at 08:00 PM
Friday, February 29, 2008
River Rock Show Theatre

Born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, Lewis Black performs a brilliant trifecta as stand-up comedian, actor and author. Lewis received the award for "Best Male Stand Up" by the American Comedy Awards in 2001 and was recognized by the Pollstar Awards for his blockbuster comedy tours: “Rules of Enragement” and “Red, White & Screwed” in 2004. As the creator of "Back in Black" for "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart, Lewis has been with the show since the beginning. 2006 was a break out year for Lewis as an actor … he co-starred in Barry Levinson’s Man of the Year, Accepted and Unaccompanied Minors. He also starred in Bob Saget’s parody Farce of the Penguins with Samuel L. Jackson. His first book, “Nothing’s Sacred" debuted on the New York Times Bestseller List.
