Lionel Richie joined the Commodores in 1968 and they soon became the most successful act on the Motown label during the latter half of the '70s. Richie served as a saxophonist, sometime vocalist and songwriter penning such ballads as "Easy," "Three Times a Lady" and "Still" (the latter two became the group's only #1 pop hits). It was in 1980 when Richie wrote and produced singer Kenny Rogers' #1 hit "Lady" and the following year, Richie's duet with Diana Ross, "Endless Love" (recorded for the Brooke Shields film of the same title) became the most successful single in Motown history. Richie decided to embark on a solo career in 1981 and immediately recorded his solo album Can’t Slow Down which featured such hits as “Truly,” “All Night Long (All Night)” and “Hello” followed by Dancing on the Ceiling in 1986. Richie wasn't bitten by the recording bug again until 1996. In approaching his comeback, he attempted to update his sound to reflect a decade's worth of developments in urban R&B. The result, Louder Than Words, reached the Top 30 and went gold. 1998's Time found Richie in a more familiar element relying on his signature sound with only slight musical updates. His 2006 album Coming Home found him working with an all-star cast including Jermaine Dupri, Raphael Saadiq, Sean Garrett and Dallas Austin. Live in Paris followed in 2007. Lionel continues his remarkable career with ongoing concert tours including premiere performances at the River Rock Casino Resort’s Show Theatre and the Boulevard Casino’s Red Robinson Show Theatre on January 18 & 19, 2008.
