JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Clark County Republicans say they hope a riverboat gambling measure will bring conservative voters to the polls for the hotly contested Ninth Congressional district race in November.

A petition seeks a non-binding referendum calling for a casino in the Ohio River county.

Supporters turned in their petition signatures Tuesday.

Jeffersonville City Councilmen Ron Grooms says if supporters succeed in getting the riverboat issue on the ballot it might bring more conservative voters to the polls in November to support Republican candidates.

Clark County is part of the 9th Congressional District, where a tight race is expected between Democrat Baron Hill of Seymour and incumbent Republican Mike Sodrel of New Albany.
