Las Vegas (LAS) gets most of the limelight, but travelers seeking more rarified air often opt for Reno (RNO), Nevada. The shows and gaming are there, but so is some sublime scenery.

To get you there, discount airline Southwest has just launched weekend service between Chicago’s close-in Midway Airport (MDW) and Reno. The flight marks the first MDW-RNO nonstop.

The new flight departs MDW Fridays at 7:50pm, and gets to the gate in RNO at 9:55pm, in plenty of time to hit the casinos and perhaps take in a late show. The return flight departs Reno Saturday mornings at 8:30am, and arrives Chicago at 2:10pm.

Local leaders like the new service. They like it a lot. “We hope customers will make this flight successful,” says Krys Bart, the executive director of Reno-Tahoe International Airport. If that happens, Bart sees the possibility of “expanding from weekends to daily service”.
