In Saturday’s $50,000 Suthern Accent at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, the concept will be put to the test. Trained by Cole Norman, True Tails is a very consistent runner. In 12 of her 13 career starts, the daughter of Yes It’s True was leading the race at the first call, and has yet to finish worse than third. Most recently in the Valid Expectations at Lone Star Park, True Tails employed her usual tact and opened up an early five length lead, only to weaken late and lose by a neck. On Saturday, leading rider Carlos Gonzalez will hope to utilize her early speed but this time save enough to hold on until the finish. Boding well for True Tails is the lack of speed in the race. Of her five competitors, not one shows an affinity for racing near the pace. Graziella’s last win was in gate-to-wire fashion, but it has been more than 12 months since she was able to pull off a similar win. Most recently, Graziella rallied from off the pace to win Tellike Stakes at Evangeline Downs. Carry Thomas will saddle Picata, who has rallied to win two consecutive races at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs. Like Graziella though, Picata will have to rally into the lone speed of True Trails. Among the other entrants, Space Cruise, who ran second to Graziella in the Tellike Stakes, will start for trainer Pat Mouton. Tawnka and Genuine True round out the field. The field for the Suthern Accent: Graziella (K LeBlanc, 12-1), Tawnka (T Hebert, 12-1), Picata (D Meche, 6-1), True Tails (C Gonzalez, 3-5), Genuine True (L Meche, 6-1), Space Cruise (E Perrodin, 4-1).
