MASHANTUCKET - John A. O'Brien, 49, of Stonington, has been named president of Foxwoods Resort Casino.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation announced the appointment Wednesday. O'Brien replaces William Sherlock, who announced his retirement in March after nine years with Foxwoods, six of those years as president and chief executive officer.
O'Brien, a former Hilton hotel executive, most recently served as Foxwoods vice president and chief financial officer.
O'Brien is a member of the board of directors of the Foxwoods Development Company, the tribe's off reservation development entity.
"First, our thanks to Bill for his long and dedicated service to the tribal community. We look forward to Bill'' next role supporting our many MPTN economic diversification efforts. John, as reflected in our unanimous Tribal Council action , has earned this opportunity to take us into an exciting future that includes a new casino next door to Foxwoods, and the completion of the destination resort that our tribal community has been pursuing for more than two decades now."
Foxwoods has 7,400 slot machines, 380 table games, restaurants, retail shops and nightclubs.
