Casino gambling advocates say the sale of Ellis Park racetrack in Henderson by Churchill Downs Inc. could have a positive impact on the legislative push to bring casinos to Kentucky.
Executive Director Jim Navolio of the Kentucky Equine Education Project says having more owners involved in racing in the state can only help in putting expanded gambling before the voters. The Equine Education Project is a horse racing industry advocacy group.
Senator David Boswell says he remains committed to working with the horse racing industry to ensure racetracks have a shot at casinos if expanded gambling is approved. The Sorgho Democrat also supports casino gambling in other locations.
Churchill Downs announced earlier this month that it will sell the Henderson track to Ron Geary, a 58-year-old Louisville businessman.
