Second largest payout ever; is Manchester the second luckiest city in England?

A Manchester based student, Angela Michail, has won a jackpot payout of £358,000 on just a £1 bet at her local Grosvernor Casino on Whitworth Street in Manchester.

Richard Lloyd, Grosvenor Casino Whitworth Street's Manager said, "This is the second largest payout in our history - the largest was in London a few years ago. So I guess that makes Manchester the second luckiest city in England!"

Ms Michail punted her pound in Super Stud Poker, a nationally linked jackpot across the Grosvenor Casino network. 70 pence of each pound placed goes to a collective jackpot and there are varying levels of pay outs depending on the cards drawn. Angela's Royal Flush lead to the record jackpot pay out.

Super Stud Poker is played alongside the traditional Casino Stud Poker. Already well over £10 million has been paid out in progressive prize money by Grosvenor Casinos since the game began in 2003. Customers can win a 10% jackpot with a 'Straight Flush' (five consecutive cards of the same suit) and 100% jackpot with a 'Royal Flush' (10, J, K, Q & A of the same suit).

Ms Michail said, " We normally play poker at Grosvernor Casinos about once a month. I wasn't expecting to win when I placed my normal bet, so I was shocked when I realised how much I had won! I don't think the money is going to change my life though. I'm going to continue with my studies but I think the cash will come in handy to pay off my tuition fees."

Mr Lloyd continued, "The jackpot had been growing for some months, so it was only a matter of time before someone got lucky. We're very pleased for Ms Michail to have won it and we're looking forward to seeing her back at the tables soon."

Ms Michail is a full-time student at Salford Univeristy in Manchester studying property management and lives with her parents.
