Michael McDonald
Christmas Show

December 7
Time: 8:00pm
Prices: $70, $65, $50, $30
On Sale: NOW

A prominent part in the soundtrack to our times, Michael McDonald, as an artist and songwriter, has been awarded an impressive five Grammys. However, by maintaining a low-key profile, the contrast of Michael McDonald as a person and as a musician is astounding. Though comfortable onstage, he has never been a flashy entertainer, nor has he been distracted by passing trends. Instead, McDonald has triumphed through music alone, with a remarkable voice and a body of well-crafted songs. Few have made such an impact with so much substance and so little hoopla.

Born in St. Louis on February 12, 1952, singing was central to his life from the beginning. McDonald's father, a bus driver and gifted amateur tenor who, while in the Marine Corps during WWII, once performed with Bob Crosby and the Bobcats and often sang for friends in local haunts around St. Louis. At four years old, he first sang in public, warbling "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" for his dad and a roomful of delighted friends. His first instrument was the banjo, but he traded it in for a guitar in order to join his first band.

On Sale: NOW

Frank Sinatra, Jr. was born in New Jersey, raised in California, and educated in the showrooms of Las Vegas and on bandstands all over the world.

On the evening of September 8, 1963, the Royal Box of the Americana Hotel in Manhattan re-opened for the fall season. Other hotels featured such established performers as Sheila and Gordon MacRae Waldorf), Peter Duchin (St. Regis), and Xavier Cugat and Abbe Lane (Plaza). The Royal Box presented a newcomer: backed by the Tommy Dorsey Band. At 21, Frank Jr. made his debut into the big time.

Winter, Winter & Derringer

December 28
Time: 8:00pm
Prices: $28, $22, $18, $15
On Sale: NOW

EDGAR WINTER

By the time Edgar Winter left his hometown of Beaumont, Texas in the 1960's, he was already technically proficient in every aspect of music. A child prodigy who achieved international success early on, Edgar has found an audience in every major entertainment medium--music, film and television. A prolific writer, Edgar's music encompasses many different genres, including rock, jazz, blues, and pop. From his critically acclaimed 1970 debut release, Entrance, he has demonstrated his unique style and ability to cross the genre lines and do the unexpected. His early recording of "Tobacco Road" is a powerful, emotionally devastating masterpiece that propelled him into the national spotlight. Edgar followed Entrance with two hit albums backed by his group White Trash, a group originally comprised of musicians from Texas and Louisiana. White Trash enjoyed huge success, both with the 1971 release of the studio album, Edgar Winter's White Trash, and with 1972's follow-up live gold album, Roadwork.

JOHNNY WINTER

For over 30 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Constantly shifting between simple country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, - Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock (a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.) Throughout the '70s and '80s, Johnny was the unofficial torch-bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.

RICK DERRINGER

Young guitar great, vocalist and entertainer Rick Derringer was just 17 when his band "The McCoys" recorded the No.1 hit "Hang On Sloopy" in the summer of 1965, knocking "Yesterday" by The Beatles out of the top spot. "The McCoys" had enjoyed four years of successful touring, when Rick merged his talents with Johnny Winter in 1969 forming "Johnny Winter And" ("And" referring to "The McCoys").

The Manhattan Transfer

December 31
Time: 11:00pm
Prices: $75, $65, $60, $45
On Sale: NOW

It's been more than thirty years since Tim Hauser paid his bills by working both as a marketing executive and a New York cabbie with dreams of creating a vocal group. One Night in 1972, Hauser's taxi fare was an aspiring singer named Laurel Masse, who was familiar with Jukin', an album Huauser had made with an earlier Manhattan Transfer combo. A few weeks later Hauser met Janis Siegal at a party. Although Siegel was then performing with another fold group, Hauser convinced her and Masse to be part of his nascent group.

At the time, Alan Paul was stirring hearts on Broadway appearing in the original production of Grease. When he met with Hauser, Siegal and Masse, the groundwork was laid for The Manhattan Transfer, which was officially "born" in the fall of 1972.
