Southland Greyhound Park is changing its name, and its look. It will now be known simply as Southland Park. The track's president, Barry Baldwin, says the expansion will mean 250 new jobs in West Memphis.

The newly renovated park will be more than just a dog track after its grand opening in November. Construction is underway for a casino-style buffet, a nightclub and a huge gaming area featuring "games of skill."

The track has been less successful financially since it's heyday in the late 80s, and Baldwin says the goal of the renovation is to get the park back on track. He says the expansion is not aimed at competing with Tunica Casinos. "No, because this is not a casino. The game of skill is much slower than a slot machine. What we've tried to do here is bring back the business of Southland to the year before Tunica," he says.

The expansion also means new jobs. There will be about 250 positions to fill. Baldwin says the average salary will be $30,000 a year.
