Gambling news from http://kennebecjournal.mainetoday.com/

This letter is in response to recent editorials in the newspaper and its never-ending attack on slot machines and racinos/casinos.

Newspaper buying, taxpaying, voting adults are getting tired of special interest groups such as No Slots For ME! hijacking the issue and spinning it.

The newspaper's obviously biased stance is disturbing as well.

Many people enjoy spending money on gaming entertainment today. It is mainstream and accepted behavior. As adults can't we decide for ourselves if we wish to participate in this? Millions of dollars in revenue to the state leave Maine because we don't have enough gaming options available for our citizens.

Gaming creates jobs in hospitality, construction, and other related industries. Check out the job growth miracle happening in Las Vegas. These are real jobs with real benefits. Ask the employees at T-Mobile if they would rather work in a casino or in a call center and you will be surprised at what they say.

I understand that some people have a moral problem with gambling and that is fine.

They don't have to go to a racino/casino. It is their choice. It is my choice and countless others to enjoy gaming.

I agree with this 100%! If they are trying to protect the people who are addicted, it isn't going to work. Even if you make gambling illegal, those people will find some way to gamble. And if they don't want gambling for moral reasons - don't go. I find gambling entertaining. It is fun and I only spend what I know I can afford. What's next? Shutting down arcades? I mean you know, when you play skeet ball, you can win tickets for prizes.

I think this casino is rather "cheesy" I would definately not consider it a "casino" more like just a room full of digital slots. There is no old style machines. No spinning reels and no pull arms in the whole place. I was rather dissapointed.

I agree Starlite. While some of the new games are fun (especially those with bonus rounds and games inside of games), I like the old one-armed-bandits with spinning reels and coins clinking in the bucket.

Now days with ticket-in ticket-out digital machines its like a video arcade more than a casino.

Thanks for joining the board!
