March 7, 2007 06:16 PM EST
In St. Landry, the Opelousas police department is getting some much needed money. Wednesday at a joint press conference, the St. Landry sheriff's office announced plans to give funding to Opelousas police. The money comes from revenues generated by Evangeline Downs.
The police department will get between 150 to 200 thousand dollars a year. Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says since the casino is in the city of Opelousas, police should benefit.
Chief Perry Gallow welcomes the money. "We need equipment we need officers we need man power. This is very positive effort on the part of the sheriff's office and sheriff's dept. working in conjunction with OPD to make our city and our parish safer.
The department will get the money in September. |
