In new data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, revenues from poker and gaming machines in clubs, pubs and bars make-up over 56 per cent of all takings. The figures show New South Wales and Victorian businesses account for over half of all money taken from gambling Australians. The bureau's Sophie Vassiliou says information on employment in gambling industries has also been collected. "We have recorded employment and there were over 76,000 people employed in gambling services," she said. "The majority of these, or close to 60 per cent, were employed in hospitality, clubs and pubs also."
