DAVENPORT, Iowa Officials say a contagious virus has been confirmed on the Isle of Capri Casino in Bettendorf -- but it appears to be subsiding after a substantial cleaning of the riverboat and its sister casino in Davenport.
The norovirus, what many think of stomach flu, causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramping.
Two cases have been confirmed, and several others, mostly employees, have fallen ill with similar symptoms.
Casino spokesman Mo Hyder says they cleaned everything from poker chips to slot machines and handrails and employees were given proper hand-washing instructions.
The Scott County Health Department says the first report of illness was on October 18th from a guest on the riverboat. Officials believe the virus may have started about a week before. |
