A Fayetteville convenience store clerk has been charged with stealing Powerball lottery tickets.

Louisa Jean Campbell, 28, of the 6200 block of Shadyside Lane, generated $1,062 worth of tickets and put them in her pockets, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Campbell is charged with embezzlement, larceny by an employee and obtaining property by false pretense.

Campbell worked in a store owned by Holt Oil Co. at 1709 Clinton Road.

The theft was captured on surveillance video and through cash register audits, Tanna said.

North Carolina began selling lottery tickets March 30. Since then, about 15 retail employees across the state have been charged with taking lottery tickets and related offenses, Pamela Walker said. She is a spokeswoman for the N.C. Education Lottery in Raleigh.

Campbell is free after posting bail of $5,000.
