Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Tom Suozzi believes there should be a moratorium on new gambling casino construction across New York.
The Nassau County Executive was in Buffalo on Friday. Suozzi says he is not against gambling per se, but he says he does not want to see a community drained of its resources by a facility that he contends, does nothing to revitalize the community economically.
Case in point, he says, is the Senecas' proposed Buffalo Creek Casino near HSBC Arena. Suozzi says he objects to the limited scope of the Senecas' proposal.
"Their desire is really to cater to downtown Buffalo's residents and people only within 20 miles. It's not going to become a tourism destination. This is going to prey upon some of the lower-income people of Buffalo and make a profit off of them, but really do nothing to improve the overall economy of Buffalo," said Suozzi.
Suozzi is a distant second to Eliot Spitzer in the battle for the Democratic party nomination. Spitzer is the endorsed party candidate.
