TALLADEGA, Ala. Talladega County's clampdown on gambling machines won't surprise many because sheriff's deputies are giving businesses advance warning.
Convenience store owners this week were told to remove all gambling machines within a week.
Chief Deputy Jimmy Kilgore says the orders came from the district attorney's office.
District Attorney Steve Giddens says gambling machines making a comeback in the county give players chances to win prizes.
Giddens says he's had several people tell him that these machines are not gambling devices under state law, but Giddens says they are.
And Giddens says disconnecting the machine isn't enough. They must be removed from the business or risk being seized by deputies, he says.
The D-A says businesses in Jefferson and Calhoun counties recently have installed these same machines. |
