Voters in Tama County will be asked to consider approving another casino when they go to the polls in November.
City officials gathered more than 1,000 signatures on a petition asking for a vote on a proposed riverboat casino in the county.
Mayor Chris Bearden said only 902 signatures were needed to get the measure on the November ballot.
The petition was turned into the Tama County auditor's office Friday.
If the gambling measure is approved, a nonprofit gaming board can form, which will oversee a casino.
However, it could be a while before any new gambling licenses are approved by state gaming regulators.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission considered reinstating a moratorium on new riverboat gambling licenses in July 2005, but chose not to.
The commissioners said they were not inclined to issue any additional licenses until four casinos approved in May 2005 in Emmetsburg, Waterloo, Riverside and Worth County were built and operating so results could be evaluated.
Iowa has 14 gambling boats, three racetracks and three American Indian casinos, including the Meskwaki casino near Tama.
