LAS VEGAS - The 2006 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena Monday, Dec. 4 (8 p.m.-10 p.m. EST live/PST tape delayed) on FOX. The event has been televised exclusively on FOX since the show’s inception. The 2006 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS recognizes the year’s leading artists and songs as determined by actual performance on Billboard’s weekly charts.

Tickets priced at $195, $100 and $50, not including applicable service charges and taxes, go on sale Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office. Tickets also will be sold at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (Smith’s Food and Drug Centers, Macy’s stores and Ritmo Latino) and ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. Wristband distribution will begin Saturday, Oct. 28 at 6 a.m. and end at 9 a.m. A random number will then be drawn and a line-up will be in sequential order beginning with the random number selected. Individuals must be 16 years of age to receive a wristband and wristband guidelines will be provided at the on-sale. A wristband does not guarantee that a ticket can be purchased.

Direct from the legendary Las Vegas Strip, and featuring performances and appearances by the year’s chart-topping artists, the show celebrates the record-buying, Internet-downloading and radio-listening public’s favorite songs, albums and performers, creating a true snapshot of the year in music. Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, The Killers and Gwen Stefani are scheduled to perform. Additional performers, hosts, nominees and presenters will be announced at a later date.

Based on sales data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and radio information monitored by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, Billboard’s music charts are the world’s most authoritative. Winners are determined by the 2006 year-end charts which reflect the weekly Billboard charts published from December 2005 through November 2006.
