ROME -- Loyal followers of the Savoy dynasty have campaigned for more than half a century to restore the fallen monarchy in Italy. Italy's would-be king isn't helping any.
Victor Emmanuel, the Savoy family's crown prince, just spent a week in prison in the southern Italian city of Potenza. Prosecutors allege Victor Emmanuel was part of a criminal association that recruited prostitutes, bribed government officials, and illegally arranged to have video poker machines sold to a casino. On Friday afternoon, the 69-year-old royal was let out of his cell and transferred to house arrest in Rome.
