Conspiracy, fraud and racketeering

The lawsuit says the anti-gambling lobbyists broke the law by:

•Failing to register in Texas as lobbyists

•Not disclosing that their money came from a Louisiana tribe

•Getting the Alabama-Coush- attas to pay $50,000 for a congressional fact-finding mission and then using the cash for a golf trip

The players:

Jack Abramoff, former super-lobbyist who has pleaded guilty to conspiring to corrupt public officials and to steal millions from Indian tribal clients

Michael Scanlon, a former Tom DeLay aide who has pleaded guilty to conspiracy

Ralph Reed, candidate for lieutenant governor in Georgia, former Christian Coalition boss

Neil Volz, former aide to U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio

Jon Van Horne, Abramoff's former colleague at his law and lobbying firm, Greenberg Traurig

Tribal involvement

The lawsuit alleges:

•Working for a Louisiana tribe, the lobbyists tried to scuttle gaming in Texas for tribes such as the Alabama-Coushattas and the Tiguas.

•After working against the Tiguas, Abramoff's group began working for the tribe in Washington, trying to change federal law to help them.

•The team unsuccesfully tried to get the Alabama-Coushattas as clients as well but successfully solicited donations from tribe.
