Casino news from

SOME of the world's leading leisure operators are among the companies which want to invest in Blackpool's future.
It has been revealed eight companies have submitted expressions of interest in developing the Second Gateway site, three more than originally thought.
It brings to more than 40 the number of organisations which have reacted to Blackpool's efforts to attract private investment as part of the resort's £1.4bn masterplan.

A total of 22 firms made submissions for the hoped-for regional "super casino"; 12 made bids for the Talbot Gateway redevelopment, which has since been scaled down to three, and now eight have responded to the Second Gateway scheme.

Blackpool's head of corporate policy and development Alan Cavill said such interest was good news for the resort.

He was unable to reveal the names behind the Second Gateway submissions at this stage, but added: "Some are local companies while others are national and international development companies who are just logging an interest.
"The purpose of the exercise was to see if it was just Storm City which was interested in this site, or if there were other possibilities out there, and from that point of view it has worked.

"We had 22 submissions for the casino site and 12 for the Talbot Gateway, and they both had a lot more detail about what we wanted.
"So eight submissions for the Second Gateway is pretty good based on the fact that we couldn't give people a lot of detail guidance.
"It's all good news for Blackpool."

All the bids will be evaluated by the end of September when the council will decide what steps it wants to take next.
Developer Storm City, the brainchild of former Tower marketing manager Norman Wallis, has already revealed it wants to create a £500m indoor leisure park on the 20 acre site on the southern side of Rigby Road, stretching from the Promenade to Central Drive.

No preferred developer has been chosen from the 22 submissions for the casino. Those interested include such world gambling giants as the Harrah's and Hilton groups.

A decision will not be made until the UK's one-and-only regional casino licence is awarded by the government early next year.
Three developers, Amec, the Carillion/Richardson Partnership and St Modwen have been shortlisted for the Talbot Gateway.

The 12.8 hectare area – located between Talbot Road and Church Street, surrounding the old Talbot Road bus station – is being billed as the Fylde's new "natural first choice" in retail, business, civic and cultural centre.
The aim is to offer a new mix of shopping, commercial and community opportunities.
