Two plead guilty in $1.6 million Riverside County casino heist

RIVERSIDE – Two defendants pleaded guilty to being accessories after the fact in this month's $1.6 million Indian casino heist and they could be sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Ricky Davis Aban, 19, of Los Angeles and Sonya Marie Boyorquez, 23, of Hemet entered the pleas Tuesday before Superior Court Judge John Monterosso, district attorney's office spokeswoman Ingrid Wyatt said.

Both cooperated with investigators and Aban returned $198,000 in stolen money.

“The fact that they cooperated was significant,” Deputy District Attorney Lorie Ronce said. A report will be completed to help Monterosso decide the length of the sentence, the prosecutor said.

Boyorquez lawyer Jeff Zimel said the term could range from probation to 16 months in prison.

They will be sentenced next month.

Investigators said Aban and Boyorquez helped casino employee Rolando Luda Ramos, 25, and Eric Allen Magdaleno Aguilera, 23, after the Aug. 2 robbery.

Aban and his wife, Angelica Garcia, voluntarily turned in $198,000 in stolen money, court records show. Aban said he helped Ramos escape to Los Angeles.

Ramos, the alleged ringleader of the heist, claimed in a Press-Enterprise interview earlier that he was high on cocaine at the time of the inside job in which 10 Soboba Casino employees were hogtied.

Ramos, who worked at the casino installing surveillance cameras, disabled cameras, held employees at gunpoint and took the cash, investigators said. Ramos tied up and gagged three casino employees in a surveillance room and pepper sprayed one of them, investigator Tim Judge said.
