Union leader says casino inflated stats on union workers
LAKE CHARLES, La. A construction union says its members made up less than 20 percent of the work force at a Lake Charles casino, rather than the nearly 60 percent figure used by casino officials, who pledged to employ mostly union workers.
About 400 of the 2,200 people who built L'auberge du Lac -- 18 percent -- were union workers, according to Wilbert "Bish" LeJeune, president of the Southwest Louisiana Building and Construction Trades Council.
Dan Lee, Pinnacle Entertainment's chairman, says 58 percent were union workers.
The unions, who say Pinnacle officials promised to employ mostly union labor, have been at odds with the company since it was built. |
