Vicksburg helps negotiate railroad right of way for casino
The Associated Press
VICKBSURG — The city of Vicksburg has helped a casino developer negotiate a deal for 155 acres of railroad right of way.
The deal provides space for the casino and cuts off rail service to at least one local business.
“This took a lot of negotiation,” Mayor Laurence Leyens said of the agreement for Kansas City Southern Railway to transfer the land to Lakes Gaming.
Leyens said this week that it was his understanding that Lakes would deposit $70,000 toward the total purchase price of about $1 million for the land between U.S. 61 South and the Mississippi River. It would have additional time to come up with the remaining $930,000. |
