Tonight marks the grand opening of Lumiere Place Casino & Hotel, the half-billion-dollar entertainment complex that features a handful of top-chef restaurants, retail shops, two hotels—including a brand new Four Seasons (Missouri’s first)—and a 75,000-square-foot casino. While most of St. Louis’ casinos fall outside city limits, August saw the grand re-opening of Casino Queen in a new location near the Gateway Arch, and Lumiere is in downtown proper. Funded by Las Vegas-based gaming and hospitality development company Pinnacle Entertainment, the complex is located in the burgeoning Laclede’s Landing restaurant and retail district. I’ve read a few articles quoting skeptical Landing neighbors who aren’t sure how the ginormous new venue will affect their business. Regardless, I’m curious to hear what all the fuss is about.
