Woodlands plans casino
29 June 2007

KANSAS -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: "The Woodlands' long-range plan calls for a $40 million to $50 million permanent casino and restaurant to be built next to the track's twin clubhouse for horse racing.

"If The Woodlands gets a green light from the state, track officials will open a temporary casino on the ground floor of the dog track clubhouse.

"Jayme LaRocca, Woodlands general manager, said Thursday that remodeling was expected to be under way by Aug. 1 and that as many as 800 slot machines could open to the public in February.

"...On Tuesday, Wyandotte County voters overwhelmingly approved ballot issues to allow the Woodlands slots and the building of a state-owned casino elsewhere in the county. The local approval was needed under the state's new casino gambling law, enacted earlier this year by the Legislature.

"The Woodlands' long-range plan calls for a $40 million to $50 million permanent casino and restaurant to be built next to the track's twin clubhouse for horse racing, on the other side of the 18-year-old pari-mutuel complex's 7,000-car parking lot..."
