GRAMMY AWARD WINNER KELLY ROWLAND TO PERFORM AT SILVER LEGACY
Former Member of Destiny's Child Takes To The Stage November 3rd
Reno, Nevada (August 24, 2007) - Multiple Grammy Award winning R&B singer, songwriter and dancer Kelly Rowland rose to fame as one of the founding members of the successful R&B girl group Destiny's Child, the world's best-selling female group of all time. She will perform on November 3rd at 8 p.m. in the Grande Exposition Hall inside Silver Legacy Resort Casino.
After a series of commercially successful releases with the group, Rowland released her debut solo album Simply Deep in 2002. The album became a success, eventually selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and showcased the smash hit, "Dilemma," Kelly's duet with rapper Nelly, which earned the Grammy for Best Rap/Song Collaboration in 2003 and spent 10 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100. Rowland's second album, Ms. Kelly was released in June 2007 and spawned the top five single "Like This," a collaboration with rapper Eve and yet-to-be-released follow-ups "Ghetto" featuring rapper Snoop Dogg and "Work."
"I really put my heart and soul into this record," she enthuses, "and not only am I excited that everyone's going to hear the music, I'm looking forward to people getting to hear the real me. That's the reason I called the album Ms. Kelly. Because the title is all about respect, being an adult and that's how I feel about my life, and my music. I know it's kind of a cliché to say, but Ms. Kelly really is the album I was meant to make."
While maintaining a recording career Rowland has also gained fame for starring in several film and television productions, including a lead role in the 2004 comedy The Seat Filler, a supporting role in the 2003 slasher film Freddy vs. Jason and several guest appearances on TV series such as The Hughley's and Girlfriends.
Rowland, who has won four Grammy Awards, is also a philanthropist and can be seen in ads for "empowerment tag" for the ALDO Fights AIDS campaign. The tags can be worn as necklaces or bracelets and benefit the YouthAIDS initiative. Rowland and Beyonce Knowles announced the formation of the Survivor Foundation, a charitable entity set up for the purpose of providing transitional housing for Hurricane Katrina victims and storm evacuees of the Houston, Texas area. The Survivor Foundation extends the philanthropic mission of the "Knowles-Rowland Center For Youth," a multi-purpose community outreach facility in downtown Houston.
Tickets to see Rowland perform are $60, $50 and $35 and go on sale August 30th at 10 a.m. and can be purchased online at silverlegacy.com and ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-MUST-SEE or 775-325-7401 or by visiting the Box Office located on the main casino floor.
