UW President Mark Emmert wants to expand the university's freshman enrollment by 1,700 students over the next decade, a plan he says will help temper the university's increasingly competitive admission process.

Tom Lane was named president of the Washington State Auto Dealers Association at the organization's annual convention May 17. Lane is president of Dwayne Lane's Family of Auto Centers, which has two locations in Everett, (Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep-Suzuki) and a Chevrolet store in Arlington.

More than 1,000 tribal members attended a June 18 ribbon-cutting and gala opening of the new 12-story Tulalip Casino Resort hotel. Tribal elders were welcomed by the hotel staff, with a red-carpet treatment and shared dinner together before other members arrived for a 6 p.m. ceremony.
