WENATCHEE — The Community Foundation of North Central Washington is inviting area nonprofits to apply for up to $5,000 in regional impact grant funds. Applicants should be eligible nonprofit groups that address community needs in Chelan, Douglas or Okanogan counties. Grants can be used for start-up funding, small equipment, special projects or other needs.

EAST WENATCHEE — Brothers Larry and Steve Frazier were pumped last week about launching Larry’s new fishing boat from the ramp here at Kirby Billingsley Hydro Park. Nice boat, calm weather, good company and, best of all, they said, no user fees or annual passes required. Recreation at the Columbia River park, owned by the Chelan County PUD, comes mostly free.

OKANOGAN — Okanogan native and petroleum engineer Steve Houston will try to unseat incumbent Trish Butler for the Position 2 spot on the Okanogan County PUD commission. Houston, 53, says the current commission has given PUD staff too much freedom to spend money, without sufficient oversight. He says he’d work to change that.
