King's Mountain Catawba Casino Review
The Catawba Indian Nation plans to build a 220,000 square foot entertainment and gaming facility on reservation land in King's Mountain, North Carolina. In July 2015 the tribe confirmed they were in talks with Hard Rock International to develop and run the facility. As of review time (early 2016) Hard Rock has not announced a partnership. The project is still in the legal stages and has many opponents as well as supporters.
Skyboat Gaming LLC is the current development partner for the casino resort, details of which have either not been solidified or simply not reported. Current plans call for the nearly quarter million square foot casino and 750 guestrooms over two hotels along with a host of other expected amenities.
In addition to a handful of bingo centers, North Carolina currently has two casinos, both owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Harrah's Cherokee Casino opened in 1997. Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino near Murphy opened in late 2015. Both of thoe casinos are managed by Caesars but wholly owned by the tribe.
