WarHorse Casino at Lincoln Race Course Review
WarHorse Gaming, a subsidiary of the Winnebago Tribe’s Ho-Chunk Inc., has partnered with the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association to operate casino gambling at the Lincoln Race Course. The $200 million casino resort to be located along West Denton Road near U.S. 77 in southwest Lincoln, will reportedly feature 165,000 square feet of space, which includes a gaming floor, event space, restaurant, and 196 hotel rooms. It would also include 1,500 stalls in an adjacent parking structure.
The existing Lincoln Race Course is home to a newly completed ⅞-mile horse track, as well as Winner’s Circle Sports Bar and Grille, a full-service restaurant and bar where visitors can eat and drink while watching sporting events and wager on live simulcast horse racing. There is also an indoor smoking lounge.
In Jan. 2021, the horsemen's association submitted an application to the Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Department seeking a zoning change to accommodate the casino, a hotel and event center space at the Lincoln Race Course.
*WarHorse is also working on casinos planned for Horsemen's Park in Omaha and at the former Atokad Downs in South Sioux City, which was reportedly purchased by the Ho-Chunk Winnebago Tribe in 2012 for $30 million
Ho-Chunk Inc. reportedly anticipates being able to premiere limited casino gaming at the three venues under its WarHorse Gaming during the latter half of next year before ramping up operations sometime in 2022.
