No Limit Poker

In no limit poker there is no limit on the maximum end of a bet that a player can make. There is however a minimum bet in most no limit games, similar in structure to a limit game of poker.

At any time in a no limit game, a player can bet up to and including, every chip they have in front of them at the table. This is known as “all in” and brings all other players still in the hand to an important decision to make. Can your hand and your stack of chips stand up to the all in players? Thus, the game of no limit.

When a player goes all in, all other betting is on the side or in the side pot. If more than one player goes all in, successive side pots are created in order to fulfill all bets. If an all in player wins, they are not entitled to any of the side pot. Assuming the all in player won, the side pot would go to the player with the next highest hand and so on. If the all in player does not win, they are out of chips and out of the game. And so goes the game of no limit poker.

It is an obvious advantage as you may be able to imagine, having more chips than anyone else at the table when playing no limit poker. For this reason, there is usually a maximum amount players are allowed to buy in to a no limit game. What a player then turns those chips into is what no limit is all about. Chips are power and power is an advantage. An advantage can often lend you no support in the game of no limit poker. For this reason it is very important to study your game thoroughly and understand some advanced strategies to help minimize the dangers of learning such a game. Thoughtful and responsible play executed with discipline can, with a little luck be not just fun, challenging and exciting, but very rewarding as well.
