On Sept. 21, 2023, the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation (MHA Nation), held a groundbreaking for the 37,000 square foot Son of Star Casino, which will be located in White Shield, just south of the powwow grounds on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in central North Dakota. According to the press release, the casino is expected to open in 2026 and will include 230 slot machines, six table games, a sports book, poker room, restaurant, gift shop, campground and coffee shop. Future phases are to include an event center, hotel and a convenience store.
