Caesar's Casino Incheon Review
In March 2014 the South Korean government awarded a provisional licence to LOCZ Korea, a joint venture between Hong Kong-based Indonesian conglomerate Lippo and Caesars Entertainment to build an integrated resort casino on Yeongjong island. The casino will be located about 10km (6 miles) from Incheon International Airport (on the same island) and about 40km (24 miles) from downtown Seoul, in the Incheon Free Economic Zone.
This was the first license in the country granted to a foreign firm, followed a few months later by an award to a joint venture of Paradise of Korea and Sammy Sega of Japan - also to be built on Yeongjong island.
Caesars is expected to manage all gaming activities and the variously held units of Lippo will be involved in other matters including real estate for the US$700 million project. At full build out the price tag is expected to reach $2.2 billion.
The project will have over 1.5 million sq ft of floor space on 10+ acres of land. Phase I, anticipated to open before the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, will feature two hotels and a casino. Upon completion (no estimated date available) at least one more hotel will be added along with convention and meeting space, and a retail mall.
The casino will be used by foreign visitors only unless laws are changed in the meantime. Only one Korean casino, Kangwon Land, is open to nationals.
Convention space numbers are not available yet and casino floor space is estimated.
