I will relate my thoughts about the Double Eagle Hotel and Casino in Cripple Creek. First of all, I did not stay overnight at this establishment, so I can’t say for sure how nice the rooms are. However, if the rooms are as nice and Cwell-kept as the casino they will be first rate. I was told there are 153 rooms – so there’s likely to be a vacancy anytime except weekends.
Double Eagle
is the “jewel” facility of Cripple Creek. If you like new, large, more “Vegas” style casinos, this one is for you. With two floors of slot and video gaming, numerous gaming tables, and two spacious video poker bars (perhaps more that I didn’t see) you will certainly find a spot to your liking. The “Gold Creek” casino is actually part of Double Eagle which makes the whole complex that much bigger. The slot floor is very spacious, with room to roam down every isle. The décor is striking, especially the spectacular glass ceiling. Truly something to see. There’s also a large attached free parking garage in the rear – the entrance is off Myers Street, 1 block south of Bennett which is the main drag. There’s also valet service at the main entrance on Bennett if you’re so inclined. The casino was bright, spotless, and manicured.
I was positively impressed with the Double Eagle Casino staff overall. There was always enough staff at the bars and cashier cages. My luck was all bad while I was there, so I never tested the “slot fill” service, but I saw plenty of employees on the floor so I assume that service would be prompt. The only line I encountered was at the player’s card booth. The bartenders were attentive and cordial, but not particularly talkative.
It seems to me that the larger, Vegas-style casinos such as the Double Eagle Hotel & Casino in Colorado offer a more “anonymous” gaming experience. Lots of people prefer that. That was my impression at Double Eagle. You just don’t get that “one of the family” feeling. One of my friends who was with me had great luck on the dollar slots, and another one did so well at a Blackjack table that he went back the next day (instead of going home like the rest of us), so my bad luck there that I mentioned earlier is not indicative of their generosity.
I recommend a stop at Double Eagle Casino the next time you go to Cripple Creek, if only to enjoy the grandness and get something to eat. As always, get a players card. They have a “cash back” and “comp” approach (also popular in Vegas these days) where you earn both cash and comps separately and can use them independently as you see fit. Nice touch. Enjoy!
