Description of Garrison Savannah's gambling facilities

Image of Garrison Savannah
Garrison Savannah is a turf 6 furlongs horse track in St. Michael, Barbados. The Garrison Savannah Horse Racing track in Barbados is less than two miles outside the capital of Bridgetown. Barbados has been the habitat of horse racing since the colonial days of 1845 when the officers of the British Regiment were stationed in Barbados. The officers used this place as the parade ground to match their horses in races. The wealthy merchants and planters joined them later.

The Barbados Turf Club controls and encourages horse racing in Barbados. It was established in 1905. It organizes three seasons of racing per year. These meetings run from January to April; May to August and from October to December.

The most important race on the Barbados horse racing calendar is the Sandy Lane Gold Cup (GR.1-INTERNATIONAL.) run on the first Saturday in March each year.

The track is a six furlong oval grass strip and races range in distance from five furlongs to 11 furlongs with the horses running in a clockwise direction

Home to the following Major horse races: Banks Guineas in March, Heineken Stakes on Boxing Day, Sandy Lane Gold Cup in March, United Barbados Derby in August and The 5000 in February.
