Update: The proposed casino in Muskegon County, MI was rejected by Gov. Whtimer on June 16, 2022, subsequently, the Little River Band of Indians has reportedly shelved the project indefinitely.
In early 2021, after receiving the necessary federal approvals for its planned Muskegon County casino, the Little River Band of Indians will need Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to sign off on a new gaming compact before starting construction of the $180 million Lakeshore Casino and Resort.
To be located at the site of the former Great Lakes Downs racetrack, near the intersection of U.S 31 and I-96 in Muskegon, Michigan, the planned venue will reportedly include a 220-key hotel, along with 69,000 sq ft of gaming space with 1,700 slot machines and 35 table games.
According to Tribal Ogema Larry Romanelli, once all the approvals are received, the project will, hopefully, be completed in two years.
The Little River Band is already responsible for its casino resort located about 90 miles from the planned site in Manistee, Michigan.
