Luxor Casino - Las Vegas Review

Go back in time to a period where the Egyptians build great pyramids and had a thriving civilization. If you visit Las Vegas, you can’t help but notice the Luxor. It’s the casino that’s shaped like a pyramid with a huge light on top. At night, the light can be seen from all over the city. In fact, it’s so powerful that it can be spotted from space! The Luxor is an amazing place to visit and stay. It’s located on the famous Las Vegas strip and is close to all the outside action.

The Luxor is one casino that has something for everyone. If you are into hitting the clubs, the RA nightclub is a must visit. It’s the number one nightclub in Las Vegas. It’s a trendy fashionable nightclub that’s a crowing jewel to the Vegas clubbing experience. The Luxor is also home to mainly headliners and popular shows. Currently, the musical show Jabbawockeez has arrived at the Luxor and it’s a big hit. Looking for a more intellectual experience? If so, visit the King Tut Museum and take a personal guided tour. The Luxor has it all.

The casino at Luxor Las Vegas has a  120,000-square-foot (11,000 m2)  gaming space with more than 2000 slot, video poker, and multi-game machines. From reel slots to the newest video slot releases the game floor is always up to date. Players go after single machine progressives as well multimillion dollar linked progressive games. There are more than 60 table games to choose from and Luxor offers free lessons daily at noon. The Luxor Poker Room has daily tournaments and prize give aways. There is a high limit lounge for those who like to  play big. The Luxor Race & Sports Book offers plasma TV's and individual seats in a state-of-the-art betting arena. Head to the Party Pit on Friday and Saturday nights to play blackjack and roulette with music pumping and girls dancing on stage.

Luxor is one of my favorite places to stay and play in Vegas. We usually go in the off-season and can get great rates between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Not only are the rooms cheaper then, but almost without fail we have been given decent upgrades without asking. They have more empty rooms that time of year so why not try to make a player happy?

Another thing I like about Luxor is that it fits my player personality. I'll try to explain. If I walk through and enter Excalibur it kind of seems like slumming - which can be fun in it's own right but if I want to do that I'll go off-Strip or to one of the seedier joints Downtown.

Spend a few hours in every casino section at Excalibur, then come back to Luxor and you will probably feel more comfortable. I know I always do. Now walk on through to Mandalay Bay. In my opinion, and it could just be me, I get a vibe like, "this place is better than where you are from". Excuse me, but the casino here kind of sucks compared to next door. There just seems to be a bit of "snoot" rolling down the noses of a lot of players there, and some of the croupiers don't make me feel as welcome either.

Don't get me wrong, I know how, and sometimes do, dress for success. I can bust out some duds that look and feel just like Armani to the untrained eye. I don't need to do that at Luxor to fit in. Dockers and a button-up shirt, some comfortable loafers (I will be on my feet for at least the next 14 hours) and maybe an extra 15 minutes for a pedicure and grooming and I'm "good enough to be there".

Luxor has a small high limit lounge and I'll find myself in there now and again. They also have a great selection of local progressive penny machines and I'll find myself there sometimes too. Gone are the days that the slots were strictly there to "keep the ladies busy" while we men got down to some serious gambling. You will see people of every gender and every walk of life playing at Luxor. So if you are an unassuming, unpretentious, middle of the road kind of person like me - you might find a new Strip favorite in Luxor. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention they got rid of most of the cheesy Egyptian theme years ago and kept all the best.
