Rain or shine, multiple stakes winner Proceed Bee is a go for Saturday night’s Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Cup Turf at Sam Houston Race Park. He was one of seven older horses entered in the 1 1/8-mile turf race Wednesday. Proceed Bee will be invading from Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., and is to ship to Houston on Friday, trainer Scott Becker said.

Papaw Bodie became a stakes winner while winning his fourth consecutive race Saturday night in the Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Turf Cup at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston. He rallied for a 1 3/4-length win over Proceed Bee. It was another half-length back in third to Little Wagon.

Sam Houston Race Park in Houston will begin its racing season Friday night with a new ownership structure, an expanded wagering format, improved purses, and a redesigned Texas Champions Day. The 31-date meet will continue through March 12, with its biggest race, the Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Turf, to be run Jan. 28.
