Sam Houston Race Park is running it's 21st season in 2014. Thoroughbreds ran a 32 day meeting beginning January 17 with 22 events and a purse in excess of $1.7 million. The $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic returned on Saturday, January 25, 2014. The season ran through the March 8th HH Sheikh Zayed Arabian Racing Festival with purses for the two events that day totaling $55,000. Post times were Friday 7:00pm, Saturday 7:00pm, Monday 1:00pm, Tuesday 1:00pm.
Quarter Horse Post Times for 2014 are March 21 - May 11, 2014 (24 Live Racing Days) Thursday 7:00pm, Friday 7:00pm & Saturday 6:00pm.
Gates open for simulcast betting daily at 10:30am with purses estimated to run from $200,000 at Sunland Oaks to $10 million for the Dubai World Cup. Enjoy drinks and a fine meal with your race day. Everybody is welcome at the Winners Circle Restaurant. Members Only are invited to The Champion Energy Services Jockey Club. Annual membership fees range from $1,600 for individuals to $2,200 for an annual corporate membership.

Bud Light Stage
Buy your $7 general admission tickets to live racing before 8:00 p.m and get into concerts free at the Bud Light stage. Come later and the tickets are $20 each. Concert dates are Friday and Saturday nights from March through May. Expect a great line-up of Country and Texas country artists to take to the Bud Light Stage and perform for an audience seated on an open lawn. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.
The Showgrounds is not only a great venue to rent for your gathering of up to 15,000 people - it's also the place to see top name acts in concert. Come see country and southern rock by such well known names as Country Music Icon Hank Williams Jr., 38 Special, and Wade Bowen.
