About the Connecticut Lottery

The residents of the state of Connecticut and its visitors have many different lottery games to choose from. The Connecticut Lottery has seven lottery games to choose from, including PowerBall, Classic Lotto, Cash 5, Mid-Day 3, Mid-Day 4, Play 3 and Play 4 as well as a very wide variety of Scratcher Games. Connecticut PowerBall Lotto Game


PowerBall is a multi-state lottery game with a starting jackpot of fifteen million dollars ($15 million). If there are no jackpot winners the jackpot rolls over to the next drawing making the jackpot even bigger.

PowerBall is easy to play. PowerBall players need only pick five (5) numbers between one and fifty-five (1-55) that represent the five (5) white balls that will be drawn and one (1) PowerBall number between one and forty-two (1-42), which will represent the red ball that is drawn. Players can choose to have half or all of their numbers randomly selected by the computer by checking the appropriate box on their playslip or asking the lottery retailer for a PowerBall Quick Pick.

Don’t forget that you can play your favorite PowerBall numbers in future games by simply marking the appropriate number of days in the Advance Play section of the playslip or telling the PowerBall Lottery Retailer how many Advance Plays you would like to play. Connecticut Classic Lotto


Classic Lotto is Connecticut Lottery’s pari-mutuel jackpot game. The jackpot starts at one million dollars ($1 million) and grows until there is a winner. Playing Classic Lotto is easy and fun.

Classic Lotto tickets are one dollar ($1) per play. Up to five (5) plays can be played on each playslip. Don’t forget about the Advance Action feature available for Classic Lotto. Players can buy twenty-six (26) advance plays for the price of twenty-five (25) plays.

Players choose six (6) numbers between one and forty-four (1-44) or select a Quick Pick and the computer will randomly select the numbers. The overall odds of winning are one in thirty-nine-point-three (1:39.3).

To win the Classic Lotto jackpot, players must match all six (6) of the numbers drawn. The drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday nights at 10:38 p.m. the odds of a player matching all six (6) numbers and winning the jackpot are one in seven million, fifty-nine thousand, and fifty-two (1:7,059,052).

Lotto players who match five (5) of the six (6) numbers drawn will win approximately two thousand dollars ($2,000). The odds of matching five (5) numbers are one in thirty thousand, nine hundred and sixty-one (1:30,961). Matching four (4) numbers wins a cash prize of approximately fifty dollars ($50). The odds of matching four (4) numbers are one in six hundred and sixty-nine (1:669). Players who match two (2) of the numbers drawn will win two dollars ($2). The odds of matching two (2) numbers are one in forty-two (1:42).

All cash prize total amounts are pari-mutuel, which means they are dependant on the number of ticket sales and the number of winners dividing the prize pool. Unless a winning player elects to take a lump sum payment, which is approximately half of the jackpot amount, the prizes are paid out in twenty-one (21) equal annual payments.

Connecticut Classic Lotto players have one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of the drawing to claim their cash prizes.

Connecticut Cash 5 Lotto Game


Connecticut Cash 5 lotto is just as easy to play as Classic Lotto. What’s better? Cash 5 lottery players can win up to one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) every day of the week. Drawings are held every evening a 10:29 p.m. Be sure to watch the drawings for the winning lottery number results.

Cash 5 lottery tickets are one dollar ($1) for each play. To play Cash 5 lotto, players first select five (5) numbers between one and thirty-five (1-35). To make playing even easier, players can ask for a Cash 5 lotto Quick Pick and the computer will randomly select the numbers for them. To increase their chances of winning more often and on more prize levels, players can choose to add the Kicker feature for only fifty cents ($0.50) per play. A Kicker is a sixth number that is automatically printed on all Cash 5 tickets at the end of the five (5) numbers. When the Kicker feature is added, there will be a “y” next to this number. When it is not added, there is a “n” next to this number.

There are many ways to win playing Cash 5 lotto, with or without the Kicker feature added. Without the Kicker feature added, the overall odds of winning playing Cash 5 are one in seventy-two-point-one (1:72.1). The odds of winning playing Cash 5 WITH the Kicker feature added are one in twelve-point-one (1:12.1). As you can see, the Kicker feature does significantly increase your odds of winning!

To win the Connecticut Cash 5 lottery jackpot of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000), players must match all five (5) numbers without the Kicker feature added. The odds of matching all five (5) numbers drawn are one in three hundred and twenty-four thousand, six hundred and thirty-two (1:324,632). Players who match four (4) of the winning numbers will win three hundred dollars ($300). The odds of matching four (4) numbers are one in two thousand, one hundred and sixty-four (1:2,164). Players who match three (3) of the winning numbers will win a ten dollar ($10) cash prize. The odds of matching two (2) of the winning numbers are one in seventy-five (1:75).

Cash 5 lottery players who match the Kicker and four (4) of the five (5) numbers drawn can win up to four thousand, six hundred and fifty dollars ($4,650). The odds of matching the Kicker and four (4) of the winning numbers are one in sixty-four thousand, nine hundred and twenty-six (1:64,926). Players who match three (3) of the winning numbers as well as the Kicker will win seventy-five dollars ($75). The odds of matching the Kicker and three (3) of the winning numbers are one in one thousand, one hundred and nineteen (1:1,119). Cash 5 players with the Kicker feature added who match the Kicker and two (2) of the winning numbers will win five dollars ($5). The odds of matching the Kicker and two (2) of the winning numbers are one in eighty (1:80). The final way for players to win playing Cash 5 is by matching both the Kicker and one (1) of the winning numbers. Players who do this will win two dollars ($2). The odds of this are one in eighteen (1:18).

As in Connecticut Classic Lotto, Cash 5 lotto players can purchase twenty-six (26) advance plays for the price of twenty-five (25) plays.

Cash 5 lotto players have one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of the drawing to claim cash prizes. Lottery participants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Connecticut Mid-Day 3 lottery and Play 3 lottery


Mid-Day 3 lotto and Play 3 lotto are essentially the same game. The only difference between the two lotto games are the times and frequency of the drawings. As the name would suggest, the Mid-Day 3 lottery game has drawings every Monday thru Friday afternoons at 1:57 p.m. Drawings for Play 3 lotto are held every single night of the week at 10:29 p.m.

Playing the Mid-Day 3 and Play 3 lotteries is very easy. Players need only select three (3) numbers from zero to nine (0-9). To simplify the game even further, players can ask for a Mid-Day 3 or Play 3 Quick Pick and the computer will randomly select the numbers. Players can wager fifty cents ($0.50) to five dollars ($5) per play and can choose from four (4) different playstyles.

Playstyles to choose from are Straight, Box, Back-Up (Straight/Box) and Pairs. In Straight play, players must match the winning numbers in the exact order they are drawn. The odds of winning this way are one in one thousand (1:1,000).

Box play has two (2) further options. Players must choose between 3-Way and 6-Way Box play. 3-Way Box play requires that two (2) of the numbers be the same, but they can be in any order. There are three (3) ways to win this way. The odds of winning playing 3-Way Box Mid-Day 3 or Play 3 are one in three hundred and thirty-three (1:333). 6-Way Box play respectively has six (6) ways to win. All three (3) numbers must match but can be in any order. The odds of winning this way are one in one hundred and sixty-seven (1:167).

Mid-Day 3 and Play 3 players may choose to play Pairs. By choosing this option, players increase their chances of winning. There are ten (10) ways to win with Pairs play and the odds are one in one hundred (1:100). Players must match any two numbers in the exact order they were drawn. These numbers can match the players’ first two numbers, their last two numbers or the first and last numbers.

Finally, players can play Back-Up, which combines a Straight play with a Box play in equal wager amounts. Players must wager in one-dollar ($1) increments, as half of their wager is Boxed and the other half is Straight. In the event a player wins the Straight play, the payout pays both ways.

Only available on fifty cent ($0.50) and one dollar ($1) wagers is the Super Straight Play. Players can match the winning numbers in any order and still win a Straight cash prize payout.

Please do not forget that you must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to participate in lottery gaming. Also do not forget that all Mid-Day 3 and Play 3 winning tickets must be redeemed within one hundred and eighty days of the date of the drawing.

Connecticut Mid-Day 4 lottery and Play 4 lottery


Mid-Day 4 and Play 4 are the same games as well. The difference being the drawing dates, times and frequency. The Mid-Day 4 game is drawn Monday thru Friday at 1:57 p.m. while the Play 4 game is drawn every single night of the week at 10:29 p.m.

Mid-Day 4 and Play 4 players can win up to twenty-five thousand dollars any day of the week and five (5) of those days, players have two different chances to win. Get your favorite four-digit number and let’s go play!

Playing Mid-Day 4 and Play 4 lotteries is easy for anyone. Players simply pick their favorite four-digit number or ask the retailer for a Quick Pick and the computer will randomly select the numbers. Next, players must decide how much to wager on each play. Players can wager between fifty cents and five dollars ($0.50-$5). Once a wager amount has been determined, a playstyle must be selected. Players may choose from the following: Straight, Box, Super Straight and Back-Up Play.

A Straight Play requires that the player match all four (4) of the winning numbers in the exact order they were drawn. The odds of matching all four (4) of the winning numbers in the exact order are one in then thousand (1:10,000).

Box players may match the winning numbers in any order. There are four different cash prize categories in Box Play. Box players can win with a 4-Way Box, where three of the numbers are the same. There are four (4) ways to win and the odds are one in two thousand, five hundred (1:2,500). There are six (6) ways to win a 6-Way Box, where the winning numbers are two (2) pairs of numbers. The odds of winning this way are one in one thousand, six hundred and sixty-seven (1:1,667). There are twelve (12) ways to win a 12-Way Box, which only has one pair among the winning numbers. The odds of winning a 12-Way Box are one in eight hundred and thirty-three (1:833). The final way to win with a Box play is with a 24-Way Box. As the name so subtly suggests, there are twenty-four (24) ways to win a 24-Way Box, where all four (4) of the winning numbers are unique numbers and can be matched in any order. The odds of matching all four (4) of the winning numbers in any order are one in four hundred and seventeen (1:417).

As in the Mid-Day 3 lotto and Play 3 lotto games, Mid-Day 4 lottery and Play 4 lottery players may also choose to play Super Straight and Back-Up play. Super Straight play is only available with a fifty cent ($0.50) or one dollar ($1) wager. Super Straight players may match the winning numbers in any order and will still receive a Straight cash prize. Back-Up players may only wager in one-dollar ($1) increments as the wager is being split between Straight and Boxed Play.
