The gambling scene is Jacksonville, Florida is growing. Actually the gambling scene has been around for awhile, but it has started booming with the popularization of Poker in the United States (especially with Texas Hold'em) and has even experienced more growth with the advent of live poker games. The only land based gambling facilities in Jacksonville are: The Orange Park Kennel Club, The Best Bet and Poker Room, The Jacksonville Kennel Club, and The Sun Cruz Casino Cruise. For casino quality gaming go to the Sun Cruz cruise ship, it has a nice casino on board. Sun Cruz is located in the historic Mayport area of Jacksonville, FL. There aren't many hotel options in Mayport, but it is minutes from Atlantic ocean and Jacksonville Beaches where hotels are plenty (yet pricey as they are beach front establishments). For simulcast wagering on horses and greyhounds, any of the 3 kennel clubs will do. The Best Bet is the only one to currently offer a poker room and it doesnt look as though that will change any time soon.

The pari-mutuel facilities get a bill up each year to turn the tracks into racinos, each year they vote for slot machines, but every year so far the bill has been defeated.

For a fun evening away from the house The Best Bet will suffice. For live racing The Orange Park Kennel Club runs the hounds. In Orange Park they have a few scattered hotels, but most people who visit from out of town usually stay in the downtown riverfront areas. There arent any hotels within ten minutes of the best bet but for a $20 cab ride you can get there from most southside hotels and $30 from most downtown hotels.

Each year the Florida Legislature attempts to curve gaming laws in their favor but the more and more they try the harder the people try and they pass laws for each area of the state for different gaming oppurtunities. Slots are legal further south, and the push is for them to move northward. Cross your fingers gamers as the laws start to bend to favor the gamer and hope we get more and more.

For the record all the casinos in Florida are Native American Indian casinos except for the casino cruiseships, poker games, horseracing and greyhound tracks.
