Nice place, but it is not downtown Portland so it takes cabs or trolleys to get you there which adds to your time to get into downtown. You have to walk a few blocks to get to the trolley, and the restaurants aren't that close, either (there are two or three close but the rest you have to walk a bit along streets where there is just residential area). The spa and hotel are very nice but I wanted to be VERY close to the MAX, and I wasn't at this location.

I didn't like being forced to pay for parking when there were no other options available, I felt like they just decided to tack on other $* to the room rate unexpectedly. It should be included in the room rate upfront so people on abidget know what they are getting into. The complimentary continental breakfast was nice that it was on every floor but it was very poorly maintained. All in all a nice hotel but i don't feel the availability of a spa and upscale restaurant automatically put you in four star land.

The Avalon is a nice hotel, however, the location was not particularly convenient for our needs. It was somewhat difficult to find and on the edge of downtown Portland. Fortunately, we were able to use Portland's mass transit which was located a few blocks from the Hotel. The breakfast was ok and included no warm foods.
