A Bump to the Best Suite Still Isn't Motivation Enough

Pre-paid for 2 Queens and a Sofabed for 5 adults as a 'pit stop' through west coast. Called ahead to confirm room and ask for late (night) check in. Upon arrival was given room with 2 double beds; spoke with front desk and, after scrambling and unprofessional yelling between employees, booked us in the largest suite...by accident. Still only had a King bed and a sofabed (ie not enough room for 5 adults) but better than 2 doubles. Told only charge we would have would be $* for extra person, but retracted after I showed them we had already paid for an extra person on reservation reciept. Asked about parking, told us to go ahead and park in lot as it is for hotel guests. Wasn't told it was $* a day to park. After checking out and looking at bank statement/calling hotel, was charged extra $*(on top of the $*) for an extra person AND $* for parking that we were lead to believe was free for hotel guests. Dated decor, terrible karaoke noises coming from lobby, lacking amenities, overpriced restaurant, and very unprofessional/disorganized. Big mistake to think we could 'just deal' for a pit stop overnight. Would not stay again, even if accidentally moved to Rosen Suite.

This is a typical badly aging downtown hotel in need of significant cleaning and innumerable upgrades. Rooms are tiny and crammed with too much furniture--you can't even sit on the chairs or reach the table because they are crammed behind a bed. If you doubled the size of the room, there still would be too much furniture. Because of the furniture overload, cleaning staff are unable to adequately clean the rooms. Bathroom fixtures are aging, old, cracked and in serious need of cleaning. Pillows are shockingly old and flat--and smell like they're 25 years old. The air conditioner was filthy and barely worked (it was a rare hot day in Vancouver when we visited). The hotel is located close to Stanely Park, but be aware that it is quite a distance to any of the unique attractions on the far side of Stanley Park. There are many agitated and disturbed homeless people in the vicinity of the hotel--be cautious if you venture out at night. Front Desk staff were friendly and extremely helpful (the one positive of our stay). We ate at one of the restaurants on property--food was Ok, but service was indescribably slow and inattentive. We checked out two days early, and chose wisely to continue our vacation elsewhere. This was a substandard property. For relatively few more dollars, a traveler would be wise to select another property.
