Good Quality Hotel Center of Everything in Rome

I picked this hotel based on the reviews and central location. It's a smaller hotel (5 stories) and it's certainly "classic", but well maintained and modernized throughout. The staff is excellent and eager to please. They had good advice for restaurants and were always very friendly. Think bellhops, white gloves, tuxedo jackets for waiters. The room is small, but you're not there for the room anyway! There is good AC, a mini-fridge, and a slightly older TV - again, you're probably not there to watch Italian TV. Be aware, when you leave the room, the modern systems turn off all power, so your phone/camera/etc won't get charged if you're not in the room. Our room was on the street side, but we never heard any noise. Bathroom has been totally redone and was very clean and nice, if a bit small. We had no tub, only a shower. Breakfast was excellent. Great choices of pastries, or hot eggs, bacon, ham, cereals and fruits. The hotel bar is quaint and old fashioned, makes a good cocktail, but is about $* for a simple cognac. Above all else, this hotel is in a perfect location. Walkable to numerous attractions. 1 block from the Termini train station. Safe, if touristy, neighborhood. 1 block from several of the hop-on hop-off tour companies. Green Line Tours and Appian Tours offices are very close (for side/day trips).

Although the proximity to the train/bus/metro station is great since this opens the city of Rome to you I would not stay at the Bettoja Massimo D Azeglio again. Upon arrival I honestly did not feel welcomed. The impression that the front desk gave me set the tone for the entire trip. I would not call them rude, but rather un-caring that I had arrived. There was little to no information given about the hotel, I felt like I was pulling teeth to get information out of the hotel staff. When my wife and I arrived in the room we were impressed with the overall size of the room but when you walked into the bathroom it smelt as if you had a direct line into the sewer system. The room we were given also shared the water wall with several of the hotel rooms above us. Every time someone would shower or use the bathroom we would hear the water rushing by. This was one of the many things that prevented us from getting a good nights sleep. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone I know.

We spent two nights at hotel in June, 2009. The hotel honored our request for rooms on the court side and non-smoking. One of the rooms lacked adequate air conditioning, the other was fine. One room's tv remote had no batteries. Security at hotel was poor. My wife's bag was stolen from the dining room during breakfast buffet (excellent selection and quality). She left her bag on her chair and walked maybe 20 feet to the buffet table and when she returned, the bag was gone. There is only one way in and out of the room and a person had to pass by the front desk to get to the dining room. No one saw anything. No cameras were working in the room. The hotel is well situated for access to popular sites in Rome.

My only complaint is the size of the room. I had a triple room which consisted of a regular size room with 2 twin beds pushed together in the middle and another twin bed in front of the window. This left little room for our 6 suitcases, let alone room to move around. However, the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was decent for hotel food, assorted pastries & bread, cereal, eggs, and various coffee drinks. It is in an excellent location. Just 1 block from central station, so you can get anywhere quick. If you're up for it, it's only about a 15 minute walk to the colleseum.

Would recommend this hotel to any traveler to Roma. Close to the train station, attentive staff, comfortable room and excellent restaurant. The only downside is the small breakfast with so many guests and tables it was impossible to move and enjoy the breakfast. There is an option to open an adjoining room but this was done on only one morning.
