We just got back from a 7-day stay at the Doubletree Hotel Alana. My husband and I were there for a high school basketball tourney. We were offered great rates through the school so we really got a great deal for the quality of our accomodations. I really have nothing but positive things to say. The hotel is going through a renovation - the top 6 floors/lobby had been through the renovation already. I requested a renovated room prior to my arrival, which the hotel was able to accomodate. The room was great - all new decor so it made the stay very comfortable. The front desk staff was wonderful - always friendly and wanting to accomodate my requests. Housekeeping staff was never in our way. The valet guys were friendly and helpful. The location is very accessible to restaurants, the ocean, the bus lines and shopping. The warm cookies (provided at check-in and really any time I asked for one) are awesome. If I had anything negative to say it would have to do with the renovation - the jack hammering for the lower floors could sometimes be heard/felt - we were probably in our rooms more due to 2 days of rain. But the renovations should be over within the next couple of months so that should not be an issue for future travelers. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

My husband took me to this hotel for my birthday and we stayed in the penthouse suite. We did not see any roaches, which are really common in Hawaii, and the room was spacious, well set up, clean, and had a really nice bed. The only reason it doesnt get 5 stars is because their idea of an ocean view is a glimpse of the ocean between the roof tops of other buildings. I imagine the lower floors had a really crap view. It was well within walking distance to the shopping and beaches, though, and we walked to the Cheesecake Factory in about 10 minutes. We are staying there again this December for the Honolulu Marathon.

My wife and I stayed for a week at the Doubletree Waikiki. Overall, the experience was not bad. The biggest disappointment by far was cockroaches. We saw a few, both living and dead. Part of the problem was because we booked through travel website, the hotel put us on the lowest floor, closest to the kitchen. Do the math. My next biggest complaint is really against the Hilton Corporation, not this particular hotel. Because we booked through Travel Website, we were not eligible for Hilton Honors points for the trip. That was really disappointing, as I have been a member for years. The room had a shower, but not a full bath, but we knew that before we went. It wasn't all bad. The manager did give us breakfast coupons to make up for the roaches. The location was nice overall. Waikiki is somewhat like South Beach in Miami. The Doubletree was close enough to the fun things to do, yet far enough away to escape the constant noise and traffic of that main stretch. The hotel pool was small, but fine. The beach was maybe a 10-minute walk away. Overall, I found the Doubletree to be a alright. I'd recommend people do their research, and more importantly, think about what's most important TO YOU. The roaches were gross, and I thank my lucky stars that my wife is not easily flustered by such things. However, the money we saved did allow us to take a day tour of Pearl Harbor and on another day go to the spa. In that sense, it wasn't a bad deal.

The service was very good, very attentive & professional. I was less than impressed with the room. Not very clean, outdated, dirty fingerprints on the door & unbelievably noisy. the street noise kept us up all night. The clerk gave us a "free upgrade", w/ocean view. You can keep the ocean view, it was definitely a limited view. the upgrade put us right next to elevator & worse yet, the ice machine. why do people need ice at 2 a.m.? it sounded like people were in our room getting ice. will never stay here again. Spent another night at Outrigger Reef on the beach which was much nicer & even cheaper.
