My stay was awesome for a first timer in Tampa. The location is perfect by the water and yet 5 mins away from the airport. I arrived around 10am and was given a room upon my arrival. The only issue with that is there are only two rooms in the entire hotel that are for smokers. The other down side is that for a single person the hotel setting isnt the best for meeting folks. i went downstairs a few times to the resturant and onkly saw elderly people eatting each time. However many places of interest are close by. I went out each night and had a great time. The hotel is great as far as relaxing getting your work done and etc.. The staff nice and yes you get a cookie when checking in even if u check in early :#41 Overall I would return and infact Im writing this review because I was on the site planning my return. Oh the bad part was the bathroom could have been cleaner but i mentioned it and they took care of it.

Nice hotel, staff was very friendly. No complimentary breakfast and you do need to pay for Internet access from your room. Besides those two things, my stay at the hotel was good and I'd stay there again next time I'm in Tampa

We just got home after staying in this hotel for 5 days. Hotel looked fine and staff was very nice. First off, we were not given our HHonors points and we were told it was because we booked with the travel agency instead of directly with the hotel. This doesn't make sense as I spent the money to be at their hotel so I should get the points, and Best Western always gives points when I book through travel agencies. In our room, we wanted to call for a morning wake-up call and found that the phones didn't work. They had to be repaired. The TV remote would not work unless we pointed it at the TV from a certain angle. Half of the double-sided coffee maker did not work...and we had to report to the desk on 2 out of the 5 days that by 2pm our room still had not been cleaned. We sat by the pool one day for about a half hour and we were not waited on at all. We finally left. There were no vending machines, but they had a pantry full of items with absolutely outrageous prices. We travel often and stay at Hilton chains regularly. This was not one of their finer hotels and we would not recommend it to anyone. Furthermore, if they won't honor their HHonors members with points just because they book through the travel agency, we will pick other hotel chains to stay at.

The Doubletree is a lovely hotel with nice suprises such as a workout room with an actual view. Our room was gorgeous and relatively quiet except for an annoying whistling sound that occurred regularly throughout our first night and sporadically afterward. Pipes? Not sure. However, I wouldn't stay there again on a vacation. It obviously is designed to appeal to the business traveler (Come on. No free coffee in the morning and breakfast that starts at $9 a pop? Smells like "expense account" to me. And hardly anyone used the restaurant while we were there!) The maid tried to enter our room at 8 a.m. daily, as though we were off to some conference for the day and not sleeping in on vacation. Learned to use the DND sign after that. Also, it's isolated. No restaurants or walk-to attractions nearby. Through no fault of the hotel's, the pool was closed for a day and a half when some yahoo broke a glass on the deck and the water had to be drained to make sure there were no shards hiding anywhere. Responsibly handled. But the pool also is located on the chillier side of the premises - probably a relief on hot days but freezing while we were there, even with temps in the 70s. All in all, a 3 out of 5.
