Through my husband's job I have had the opportunity to stay in some of the finest hotels in the world including wonderful suites and Presidential suites. There is the George V and then the others start stacking up far behind including the venerable Ritz in San Francisco. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and the staff treated us as if we were old friends and VIP guests. Our room with the balcony overlooking the city was beautiful along with the rest of the hotel. It was spotlessly clean and boasted ammenities such as a linen cloth upon which to lay your toothbrush. By the end of day 1, the entire staff was greeting us by name. The doorman took our driver's phone number just in case we needed him and he was not out front. We left the hotel for 5 days in Provence. When we arrived back, the doorman opened the car door and immediately greeted us by name and welcomed us back. He asked about our time in Provence. This hotel had no vested interest in us. My husband does not do business in Paris and has never stayed at the George V. We were a couple of American tourists who would probably not be back anytime soon. To me, that is the standard by which all hotels should be judged, how they treat their most insignificant guests. The small touches such as the leather ottoman placed next to my chair so that my purse would not rest on the floor were evident everywhere. If I left my table in the dining room, a uniformed staff member would intercept me to escort me to the ladies room without a word being spoken. Worth every euro for memories of a lifetime.

If you ever stayed at the George V before it was remodeled and became a Four Seasons hotel you will not like it now. It has lost it's personality. It's beautiful with flowers everywhere but it is now a chain hotel. Breakfast in the dining room each morning was very good and the pianist in the salon at night was quite enjoyable. But when I went to replace my GV terry robe I found that they no longer carry anything with the GV logo. Everything has the Four Seasons logo. I could not understand how someone could buy this world famous hotel and then destroy it. It was a disappointment, to say the least.
