We would stay in this hotel again. We loved it. We loved the proximity to all the main areas of San Diego and the close distance to the harbor. It is an older hotel, but it has been remodeled nicely, updated and clean. We enjoyed the restaurant at the hotel called Elephant and Castle. Nice amenities and no complaints with the staff, only that the evening concierge was not as helpful nor as friendly as the daytime one was. My husband said that the next time we stay there, we should be on the harbor side of the hotel, as the trolley noise kept him up. I didn't notice a thing, but I sleep with the sponge earplugs in anyway, to reduce tv and other room occupant noises. We walked to many places, but the hotel shuttles guests also, and public transportation is available. We had a rental car because we wanted freedom to drive out of town also. We booked it for a week, but maybe could of only got one for 2-3 days or something. There is something called zipcar.com I have since found out. The daily fee for a car in hotel parking was $*. It is common in San Diego area. We knew that going in, so just be aware. I ran into a couple I knew from the midwest and they have stayed at this hotel (4) times. They came off a cruise ship that week. There was no security locks on the exterior doors, but this was from the parking area and it is private, secure hotel parking, so that is probably why it wasn't needed. San Diego's got a reputation of being one of the safest cities in the US.
